About Our Club
(Facts and History)

The Saucon Valley Lions Club is proud to be celebrating it's 57th year of lionism.

Here's some of our club's history:

  • Our club actually began as the Saucon Valley Defenders (1942 – 1946). It was a civic group created to help the war effort.
  • The group later became the Saucon Valley Civic Improvement Association.
  • The Hellertown Lions Club saw the need for a club in the growing township, and suggested a new Lions club.
  • First group meeting of the potential new Lions club took place Nov. 9, 1948.
  • Feb. 8, 1949 the Saucon Valley club received its Charter from Lions International, with the Hellertown Lions Club as our sponsor.
  • The club's initial membership was 27 and John McGarry was president.
  • First meetings were at the Crossroads Hotel, with board meetings held at the Belmont Inn.
  • Since then, our meetings have been held at the Town Tavern (1952), Lower Saucon UCC (1955), new Lower Saucon UCC (1962), Gus’s Crossroads (1986), Hellertown American Legion (1987), and The Meadow’s (Present).

We are part of District 14-K Lions. Our state is broken down into 18 separate districts. 14-K encompasses both Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

The Saucon Valley Lions assist the local community not only with sight and hearing concerns, but also through college scholarships, blood drives, assisting local law and fire departments, and community projects.

In order to provide financial support, we organize fundraising projects throughout the year. We have a annual Gem and Mineral show, monthly first Sunday of the month breakfasts (Oct - May), golf outings, and other fun activities.

Our club holds 2 dinner meetings a month (Sep - Jun) at the Meadows banquet facility just outside of Hellertown.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at The Meadows, located on Meadows Road, near Route 412 (Main Street) Hellertown.

Not only do we perform a valuable service to both our community and Lions worldwide, but we have a fun time doing it.

Interested? Care to make a change in your community instead of just wishing you could?

We are always looking for new members to join our den at the Saucon Valley Lions. Please write or email (SVLC Email ) and tell us know your interested.

We'll invite you to be our guest at the next dinner meeting. During the meeting you'll have a chance to meet our members, and learn how we function as a club.

Please feel free to download our information brochure below. It's jammed packed with club information, photos and contact information.
